in all honesty, i havent seen any bot-posting, or spam bots or anything here... of course, if one happens to break thru, always please hit the ""Report This Post" button at the bottom of the post...

and made no mention of it in the staff forum :P

i stand corrected then, and i apologize - i honestly hadnt encountered any of them or knew they were happening...

so i guess the original question stands - how to stop this from happening again?

you don´t need to apologize :D
i think the problem can be solved by making the registration harder, sorry but i don´t know how to change it that it takes effect, but i´m sure one of the moderators or other members has an idea

It is of course 100% impossible to tell, but the accounts they post on seem to be human registered then machine/bot/program posted. We can only change the visual confirmation mode so much before you make it impossible for anyone to register.

what's about an IP ban? I know there are easy ways to deal with that but isn't it worth a try?

2 things about IP bans.
1) IP ban would only stop that particular spammer
2) Most spammers are smart enough not to be on a static IP, meaning their IP will change usually(every 7 days or just reestablishing connection to their WAN DHCP server) so that IP ban then becomes worthless unless you do range bans.
Now the problem with range bans though as well is you then are banning the innocent who happen to have a IP close to what the spammer is.
As well all these spammers have had a wide range of IPs, in all octets, so its going to be pretty ineffective.
